Engagement Quality Reviews (EQRs) are a critical component of audit quality and form an essential part of a firm’s system of quality management. In accordance with ISA 220, engagement quality reviews provide an objective evaluation of the significant judgements made by the engagement team and the conclusions reached, ensuring that audit engagements comply with professional standards and regulatory requirements.

With increasing regulatory scrutiny and emphasis on audit quality, it is essential for engagement partners, reviewers, and audit professionals to clearly understand their responsibilities regarding engagement quality reviews. This includes knowing when an engagement quality review is required, the eligibility and objectivity requirements of the reviewer, and the procedures necessary to perform and document an effective review.

This webinar will provide practical guidance on implementing Engagement Quality Reviews in accordance with ISA 220, issued by the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board. Participants will gain a clear understanding of the reviewer’s role, key review areas, documentation requirements, and how engagement quality reviews enhance audit quality and compliance.

• Roles, Eligibility, and Responsibilities of the Engagement Quality Reviewer
  Independence, objectivity, competence requirements, and responsibilities of the engagement quality reviewer.

• Performing Effective Engagement Quality Review Procedures
  Reviewing significant judgements, financial statements, audit documentation, and conclusions reached by the engagement team.

• Documentation and Reporting Requirements
  Proper documentation of the engagement quality review, reviewer conclusions, and compliance with ISA 220.

• Resolving Differences and Enhancing Audit Quality
  Managing disagreements, improving communication, and applying best practices to strengthen audit quality and compliance.

Obtaining your CPD certificate 

This training is compliant with the International Education Standard (IES7) issued by the International Federation of Accountants and recognised for CPD by relevant professional bodies including ACCA, CIMA, IAC, IIA, SAICA and SAIPA.

About the presenter  

Nestene Botha CA(SA)  

Nestene Botha completed her B.Com (Hons) at North West University in 2012. In 2014 she completed her professional articles and her Master's Degree in Chartered Accountancy. She then registered with SAICA as a Chartered Accountant in 2015.  

Nestene has lectured on the audit programme at the University of Cape Town. She started her own audit, tax & accounting practice which she has since grown into a reputable firm in the Table View area with 60 clients and two staff members.
